Hola! We are Pablo & Tara Barra (Balvin). We are missionaries serving with Youth With a Mission in Chile. This website/blog is dedicated to keeping friends, family and ministry partners updated on our life and work on the mission field. Sometimes we share updates specific to what we are doing in ministry and other times we write about things we are learning or pondering.
Below you can read a little bit about how we met and why we’ve dedicated our lives to missions.
Visit the Vision & Ministry page to read more about where we are and where we’re headed, and check the blog from time-to-time for more detailed updates. We also send out occasional newsletters which often contain more personal details that we prefer not to publish on this page, but you can sign up for our mailing list by clicking here.
A Snapshot of Our Story
Tara grew up in small-town Minnesota, the oldest of three girls, tomboy to the core. When she was approximately ten-years old, she sat two or three rows back in the morning chapel service at Grindstone Lake Bible Camp. The speaker was talking about the life of a missionary, and at the end of his short sermon, Tara stood up as a declaration that she was going to be a missionary when she grew up.
Still on separate continents and never having met, both decided to do a Discipleship Training School (DTS) with Youth With a Mission (YWAM), an international missions organization. The entity’s slogan: “to know God and to make Him known.” Tara attended the DTS in Nashville, TN in 2006 and Pablo in Viña del Mar, Chile, six years later.
Tara traveled to Chile for the first time in 2010, but she didn’t meet Pablo there until 2014 when she joined YWAM staff in the South American country. For two years they were just friends until they began to realize that something was drawing them closer. They started dating, getting to know one another on a deeper level and praying about a future together. Pablo proposed in September 2016 and they were married on August 5, 2017.
As a family, they are called to missions and their prayer is that by grace they can bring glory to God wherever he leads.
